Cumbria Fire service have been tackling a fire at Hartside Cafe.
At 14:21 firefighters from Alston and Penrith were called to reports of a fire at the Heartside Cafe on the A686 near Alston. On arrival at the scene firefighters found that the building, approximately 30 metres by 30 metres, was well alight.
The blaze ripped through the landmark Cafe high up on the A686 near Alston this afternoon.
Crews used a hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus to tackle the fire. A second hose reel jet was used to cool an LPG cylinder inside the building.
The fire is now out and crews damping down. No one was hurt in the incident.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue say that there has been severe damage to the building, and a total roof collapse.
A fire investigation is now underway.
Three appliances were on the scene (Alston, Brampton, Penrith). Penrith Fire Service followed a snow plough to get access up the A686.
