Flower Macro

Up Close:

Another test, with my Macro Extension tubes – this time, on a flowering weed that was in my garden.

You can see that I have attempted to focus on the stamens of the flower – the stamen is the pollen producing organ of a flower.

The field of view appears to be very shallow when focusing, with the foreground and background having faded out of view. I’m very impressed with the results so far. More field work is required to better a better understanding on this technique.

What is an Extension Tube?

The tube contains no optical elements; its sole purpose is to move the lens farther from the image plane. The farther away the lens is, the closer the focus, the greater the magnification, and also the greater the loss of light (requiring a longer exposure time). Lenses classically focus closer than infinity by moving all optical elements farther from the film or sensor; an extension tube simply enables this movement.
