Satire To Decay

Pepsi Co

A Generation Ahead:

Each week, I will post a photograph as part of a challenge from the Daily Post – you are invited to participate. This week, the challenge is entitled, The Road Taken.

Please show me your interpretation of the subject by adding a comment, with a link to your Website post, Facebook photo, Flickr image, etc.

For this week’s challenge, show us something that surprised you on “the road taken.” It could be a heritage building in your city or town as seen from a new-to-you angle, a yummy meal on a road trip detour, or the penny you found on a casual stroll. (I still love to find pennies — always a small thrill!) This challenge is wide open — show us the excitement, surprise, wonder, or amazement of your “road taken.”

In 1989, the slogan used in worldwide marketing by Pepsi Co, was:

Pepsi. A Generation Ahead

The featured image above, from Paphos in Cyprus was taken a generation ahead, and leaves me intrigued as to the history of the crumbling building. The road taken, on a journey to decay probably happened with nobody noticing – in the blink of an eye, ruination stood before onlookers.

I am kind of smirking at the exaggeration of the ‘generation ahead’ slogan, and am left wondering if irony is really what they (Pepsi Co) had in mind.

William Shakespeare: If any, be a satire to decay, And make Time’s spoils despised every where.

    • It does 🙂

It seems to have been abandoned for a number of years. A few yards across the road there are modern developments. Maybe the 21st Century will catch up with this address soon.
